I am on vacation right now, visiting my husband’s family in Romania and I swear I was born for traveling. I slept on and off the entire flight(s), in airports, standing, sitting in a chair….Bent over my purse, leaning against walls…. really anywhere. I also prided myself on staying so below my luggage weight limit, that I took some of my husband’s things! Not to mention I fit in five pairs of shoes, six dresses, five pairs of pants and countless shirts that I will undoubtedly never get to wear. I was born to travel, I tell you! 

It was a sleepless night last night but that’s to be expected with the time difference. The funny thing is I am not sleepy during the day either! I guess I’m trying to savor every second here.

It’s so beautiful in Romania. I mean, take aside the financial crisis, the political turmoil and the stark contrast of rich to poor…and Romania is as beautiful as I remember it. The people I’ve met are kind, welcoming and bright-eyed, the food (no matter where you go) is delicious and satisfying and healthy and the scenery is shockingly breathtaking.

This morning, on our drive into the city, we watched the sky turn every shade from purple to magenta, until the bright orange sun peaked through the frozen hillsides, melting the dewy grass. And the birds, as if in perfect harmony with the sun begin their chirping song at once. It’s so terribly beautiful here.

The air smells like the greenest grass you can imagine and the smoke of old wood.

And as I look across the countryside, I can’t help but wonder if this is some version of heaven.
